Rapid urbanization,
industrialization, deforestation, high yield farming and unabated
population growth has made our earth an endangered planet to-day. Extreme
and irregular weather condition is increasing frequency of floods,
droughts, heat waves, earth quakes, eruption of volcano, hurricane and now
the TSUNAMI.
Earth surface has undergone
unprecedented warming over the last century. World wide power houses are
largest source of global warming and US is the largest contributor to it.
In the last century the average temperature has risen by 0.60C,
most of which has happened in last 2 decades. Almost every single year
since 1992 has been the hottest year and 2005 was the warmest year
equaling to 1998. T he earth is likely to further heat anywhere from 1.10-6.40C
by the end of this century and the likely catastrophic consequences can
very well be predicated for the world and the mankind.
The different forms of gases like CO2,
methane, black carbons released by burning of fossil fuels like coal, oil
gas and wood - is significantly destroying greenhouse gases. Nitrogen and Sulphur are also major industrial pollutants, which causes ACID rain in
the atmosphere.

CFC is another from of gas which is
damaging the ozone Layer above the earth. Ozone hole first discovered in
1986, has been continuously increasing since then and the largest hole
discovered was in 2000, with a size of 11 million sq miles ( almost 3
times of South America ) . Its ultraviolet rays causes skin cancer besides
heat and harms plant & ecosystems. |
